According to the Institute of International Education’s “Open Doors” report, India sent the maximum number of students to the U.S. after China for pursuing higher studies in the US. The numbers surged by as much as 25%, touching 165,918 in the school year that ended in fall 2016, thereby reaffirming the welcoming attitude of USA’s top universities towards Indian students. With Indian students overwhelmingly opting to study STEM subjects–science, technology, engineering and mathematics, which are not very popular with American students, STEM courses abound with the Indian presence.
