This article describes the step by step process of filling the visa application forms.

Click on ‘New User’.

Select ‘India’.

Your name should be as per the Passport format.

Click on ‘New Appointment/ Schedule Appointment’.

Select ‘Nonimmigrant Visa’.

Select whatever applies to you — that is where you live right now.

Select “English” only.

Select “Students and Exchange Visitors”.

Select “F-1”

Click on ‘Continue’.

Accept T&C.

Fill in your passport details and personal information.

You will find the DS-160 confirmation number below the barcode.

Fill in your current contact details and residence where you are staying right now. SEVIS number, Uni name and zip code to be taken from the I20 document.

If you have any ‘dependents’ like a spouse or children, then give their details here.

Interview waiver does not apply to students who are applying for the F1 visa for the first time. Select the pick up option. For Mumbai, its the place where you give the appointment.

The visa fee may have changed this year. Click on ‘Click here for all payment options’.

NEFT and Axis Bank are the preferred choice of payment. Even mobile payment is fine if you have IMPS setup on your phone. Click on any one of the options to get your personalized instructions, account details, etc. For Axis Bank payment, you have to print those instructions, carry the amount in cash and go to any Axis Bank branch to deposit the money.

Once you have made the payment you will have to wait for the receipt number to get activated. You may or may not receive a mail informing you that it has been activated.

Click on ‘Continue’ on the top left corner.

Enter your receipt number or it’ll appear on its own.
